Roy Lichtenstein frequently represented women through archetypes drawn from comics and everyday advertising. Containing a conventionally attractive, smiling woman, Girl in Mirror also features Lichtenstein’s fanciful play with perspectival space via the inclusion of the handheld mirror, inviting the viewer into the frame.
Each skateboard deck measures approx. 80 x 20 cm and it's made of 7 ply Grade A Canadian Maple Wood. One wall mount included per deck. Premium felt bag included for transportation, specifically crafted to safeguard your skateboard as a collector's item.
The comic book aesthetic further encourages one to question the symbolism of the gaze and the dynamic interplay of perception. Is the smiling heroine staring back at the viewer or herself? Additionally, as is so often typical with Lichtenstein, where he often integrates previous imagery into new works, one can see the beginnings of a playful exploration of the brushstroke, evident in the styling of the girl’s hair. The artwork is presented here, in an even closer format, as a solo skate art edition.
